When the weather is as it is today, Sunday Oct 3, this song is perfect. "Autumn in New York" sung by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

I spent part of the day in Union Square. During the week and Saturday there is often a Green market.

On Sundays artists sell their work. It's an impromptu art exhibit. You really don't know what you'll find.

Gramercy Historical District Doorman Building

Gramercy is the neighborhood surrounding the petite private Gramercy Park, between 21st and 18th streets and Third avenue and Park Avenue South. The name comes from the Dutch words meaning swamp nd knife, because of the shape of the swap that was originally at the spot. Later it became the Gramercy Farm and in 1833, to preserve some open space as the city expanded northward on Manhattan, it was purchased and landscaped into a garden park.

Gramercy is a very convenient neighborhood to live in. It is close to Union Square, one of the most vibrant and vital areas of the city. To the south of it is the East Village and Greenwich Village. To the north is mid-town Manhattan, the central business and shopping area of the city.

Gramercy is a neighborhood with many atmospheric places to drink, eat, entertain and enjoy New York.

The area of Yorkville is on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. Midtown is just what the name says. Middle of town. The neighborhood is a mix of office buildings, shops, hotels and residential buildings. Many are new luxury high rises and others are from earlier times. Being in the central means that it is easy to get to the other parts of the city. If you work in central Manhattan you can very likely walk to and from work. It is very close to Grand Central station and easy to get to all the other transportation centers. By car and taxi it is convenient to every area. Midtown east is also close to the theater district, museums, hotels, Central Park, Lincoln Center, the United Nations, and everything else that makes New York the Big Apple. Of course being in the middle means that you don't have much green space and there is always activity right outside your home, but it is your home and it cab be that center of peace and calm. Many professionals live here because it is so convenient to the work sites and the social venues. Often these apartments are shared by friends who want to live in a bigger space than they could afford alone.

Live near Manhattan's Other Park in Historic Washington Heights

On the northern tip of Manhattan is the island's other park, Fort Tryon with The Cloisters. It was designed by the Olmsted Architectural company that is renown for Central Park, Riverside Park and Prospect Park. Like these other parks, it is surrounded by a residential neighborhood aimed at the upper classes. There is an express train, well maintained streets and well designed buildings. The area is also very convenient for people going up state or across the George Washington Bridge.
