Gramercy is the neighborhood surrounding the petite private Gramercy Park, between 21st and 18th streets and Third avenue and Park Avenue South.  The name comes from the Dutch words meaning swamp nd knife, because of the shape of the swap that was originally at the spot.  Later it became the Gramercy Farm and in 1833, to preserve some open space as the city expanded northward on Manhattan, it was purchased and landscaped into a garden park.

Gramercy is a very convenient neighborhood to live in.  It is close to Union Square, one of the most vibrant and vital areas of the city.  To the south of it is the East Village and Greenwich Village.  To the north is mid-town Manhattan, the central business and shopping area of the city.

The area of Yorkville is on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. Cobble Hill Park is an island of serenity and beauty.  It is a small neighborhood park, perhaps only a block in size, yet it provides the ambiance for many kinds of park activities.  There assortment of plants including flowers. Grass to lie down and read, picnic tables, benches, paths to stroll on, and a playground.  There is also a community bulletin board.  The streets around the park are narrow and tree lined.

This little park is an ideal spot for meeting  neighbors, watching ones children play in their own little space, stopping to smell the flowers, to meditate, eat ones lunch, read the paper or just be in a natural environment while in the city.

Brooklyn Heights Historic District Apartment

The streets of Brooklyn Heights have hardly changed over the years.  The streets are quiet, narrow, tree lined and named after people, long gone.  This is Henry Street, named after Dr. Thomas Henry, president of the Medical Society of the County of Kings in the 1830s.
