Perfect - Autumn in New York, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald

When the weather is as it is today, Sunday Oct 3, this song is perfect.  "Autumn in New York" sung by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
I spent part of the day in Union Square.  During the week and Saturday there is often a Green market.
On Sundays artists sell their work.  It's an impromptu art exhibit.  You really don't know what you'll find.

This is a photograph that I want to share.  I've never seen one this striking.  It's by John McGregor.  You can see and buy his work at nycJohn.com

Gramercy Historical District Doorman Building

Gramercy is the neighborhood surrounding the petite private Gramercy Park, between 21st and 18th streets and Third avenue and Park Avenue South.  The name comes from the Dutch words meaning swamp nd knife, because of the shape of the swap that was originally at the spot.  Later it became the Gramercy Farm and in 1833, to preserve some open space as the city expanded northward on Manhattan, it was purchased and landscaped into a garden park.

Gramercy is a very convenient neighborhood to live in.  It is close to Union Square, one of the most vibrant and vital areas of the city.  To the south of it is the East Village and Greenwich Village.  To the north is mid-town Manhattan, the central business and shopping area of the city.

Gramercy is a neighborhood with many atmospheric places to drink, eat, entertain and enjoy New York.
There is one doorman building in Gramercy with apartments for rent.
Here is a video on living in Gramercy.

Full service doorman buildings in the upper eastside- No Fee rentals

The area of Yorkville is on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. Historically it was known as a German and Hungarian neighborhood, but that is mostly past, though there are still ethnic food stores and shops in the area. It has a mix of traditional tenement homes and full service, luxury high rise buildings.  This neighborhood is very convenient to the financial district by taxi and limo via the FDR drive and also to escape the city via the triboro bridge.  The neighborhood is quiet and clean, very near the park and paths along the East River, and a short distance from Central Park and museum mile.  Asphalt Green is another neighborhood feature for those who enjoy athletics and swimming.

On York Avenue in the 90's, 80' and 70's are many well kept, high rise buildings with one, two and three bedroom apartments. They all have doorman and most have concierge and garages.  Many apartments have a balcony.  These apartments are "no fee". That means there is no cost to you to  have the benefit of a real estate professional make the arrangements to show you available apartments.  For more information call 917-597-4788.

Cobble Hill Park

Plaque in Cobble Hill Park
Cobble Hill Park is an island of serenity and beauty.  It is a small neighborhood park, perhaps only a block in size, yet it provides the ambiance for many kinds of park activities.  There assortment of plants including flowers. Grass to lie down and read, picnic tables, benches, paths to stroll on, and a playground.  There is also a community bulletin board.  The streets around the park are narrow and tree lined.

This little park is an ideal spot for meeting  neighbors, watching ones children play in their own little space, stopping to smell the flowers, to meditate, eat ones lunch, read the paper or just be in a natural environment while in the city.

The eye of the action - MidTown East Home

Midtown is just what the name says.  Middle of town.  The neighborhood is a mix of office buildings, shops, hotels and residential buildings. Many are new luxury high rises and others are from earlier times.  Being in the central means that it is easy to get to the other parts of the city. If you work in central Manhattan you can very likely walk to and from work.   It is very close to Grand Central station and easy to get to all the other transportation centers. By car and taxi it is convenient to every area. Midtown east is also close to the theater district, museums, hotels, Central Park, Lincoln Center, the United Nations, and everything else that makes New York the Big Apple.   Of course being in the middle means that you don't have much green space and there is always activity right outside your home,  but it is your home and it cab be that center of peace and calm.  Many professionals live here because it is so convenient to the work sites and the social venues.  Often these apartments are shared by friends who want to live in a bigger space than they could afford alone.
There are other benefits of living in a share.  Please share some of your stories in the comments section.

Health is Wealth

"The first wealth is health" Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in an essay.  This sign is in Chelsea.  The advice is generic, yet specific to you.  Unlike financial wealth, health wealth can not be handed down.  To pass this wealth to future generations is not as simple as leaving a will.   It's more likely to teach will power.

There are also other things you can say about health and wealth.

“So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health.”

A. J. Reb Mater

Live near Manhattan's Other Park in Historic Washington Heights

On the northern tip of Manhattan is the island's other park, Fort Tryon with The Cloisters.  It was designed by the  Olmsted  Architectural company that is renown for Central Park, Riverside Park and Prospect Park.  Like these other parks, it is surrounded by a residential neighborhood aimed at the upper classes.    There is an express train, well maintained streets and well designed buildings.  The area is also very convenient for people going up state or across the George Washington Bridge.

The size of the apartments and the price make it a Manhattan bargain.  There are a number of studios, one and two bedroom apartments available in this area.  Here are some examples.
When you come home or have visitors, you are welcomed by a magnificent lobby.

Upper Crust Upper East Side - Landmark Building No Fee Apartments.

Cafe Carlyle at The Carlyle Hotel

The style and class of The Carlyle Hotel and Cafe Carlyle epitomize the historical upper east side neighborhood that surrounds it.

This area of the Upper East Side is known world wide.
The boutiques and shops on Madison Avenue, Park Avenue with it's ornate central island, and Fifth Avenue, Central Park and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, make it obvious to the discerning person that though understated, this is an opulent community.

The area includes many embassies, museums, galleries and private libraries.

Boak & Paris, the architects of The Carlyle, designed this building.
Many of the buildings have been Landmarked so the streets have an aesthetic consistency.  As you walk along the neighborhood you sense the style of the earlier time period when these buildings were build for the upper class of their day.  Keeping up with the times the buildings have been renovated and restored with an eye towards preservation.

One such building  by the same architectural firm that designed The Carlyle and many other classic buildings, is on East 78th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue.
The gracious lobby has been totally restored and the apartments have been gut renovated and reconstructed.  Much of the original detail is preserved, yet the apartments are now totally modern with new kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, climate control, wiring, etc.  As always there is a doorman and concierge service and includes a laundry room.  Well behaved pets are welcome.
The lobby has been restored.
